New Year New Me

Last year, I can say that I am an unproductive and irresponsible person. That is why this year, I am going to change myself for the better; Physically, Mentally, and Spiritually. 2020 was a tough year for my mental health. Unfortunate events caused me to break down, but I believe that last wear was an opportunity for us to grow.

Starting this year, I am going to try to be productive. I am going to study much more better, and I am going to use my time responsibly. This year, I am going to face my fears instead of running away from it. I have learned that running away from such things is an act of cowardice, and will not get us to the things we want to achieve.

I am looking forward to a better version of myself at the end of the year. I will try to execute my plans instead of just manifesting it.

Nature Overwhelming Humans

Global warming is the rising of temperature caused by the modernization of people’s lives. This is not just about extreme weather changes but this is also about rising of sea levels, melting of glaciers, etc. This is becoming more dangerous as years go by. Nature is being overwhelmed by humans, and someday, the opposite will happen; Humans will be overwhelmed by nature.

If recklessness goes on, earth will be uninhabited. Effects of Global Warming are showing up; forest fire, drought, and rising of sea levels. So how are we going to cope up with these? And how will we create a sustainable future?

We can create awareness if we will use social media platforms since lots of people are using it. A lot of kids at my age use this to update their lives, so maybe I can use mine to update and share to them how mother nature is keeping up with us. Influencers should use their platforms on much more important things such as preventing global warming.

Seminars won’t work on kids these days since their attention span isn’t as long as our parents, they easily get bored if there’s only talking and slideshows. Activities should be held to lessen the boredom, or atleast use a movie or story to make them understand what you’re saying.

Awareness should be spread in order for us to keep living in this planet healthily. If we take care of our nature more, it will do the same to us; less disasters, less chaos. We should be hand in hand in bringing awareness, especially to those who will benefit these in the future, the millennials.

Is This Quality Education?

This pandemic caused the schools to be shut down. Homes became classrooms, and students became teachers for themselves. But the question is, "Is this Quality Education?" (emphasis on the Quality Education).

Each student doesn't share the same pace in learning. Instead of giving out two units per week, why not give only one? Too much tasks, too much stress for us youth to handle to the point that we prioritize academics more than our health. Two units per week filled with several tasks, to be passed after only a week. It's hard. We're not learning anymore, we're just trying to pass outputs on time. Youth are our country's hope but will there still be hope?

Youths are slowly disappearing, one by one. They are committing suicide because of stress and frustrations caused by modules and online classes. Education is killing us. Education is killing the country's hope.

There's no quality education during the pandemic. Why are we doing this? For what? For our future? How can surgeons perform a successful operation in the future when there is no ACTUAL practice and demonstration?

Do not pacify us because our opinions matter. It’s us who are learning, not you. We are experiencing the struggles of this modality of learning FIRSTHAND. We’re not opposing the idea of modular and online classes because we’re lazy, instead, we are opposing these ideas because we’re struggling. We're not trying to fight COVID, we're just adapting to this way of living.

Economic Growth as a Key to a Much More Resilient Country

The capacity to respond to difficult conditions is called resiliency. Having a high degree of resilience means a person's greater ability, either because of their character (inheritance) or resources (learned), to resolve complex circumstances. Effective stress management is demonstrated by a resilient person. They also demonstrate high self-esteem and a good ability not to get upset, in turn. Resilience is a very positive trait since it helps a person to use negative experiences as reinforcement.

In order to be a resilient country, we should look into our economy. Instead of using the country’s funds for unnecessary projects, such as the dolomite sand in Manila Bay, why don’t they just give it to the people who are in need? What is the white sand for? It’s just a waste of money. What I’m saying is that they should invest more on things that will make our country’s resilience improve.

Economy is not the only factor towards a resilient country, preparedness is also a factor. The situation has the ability to cause uncertainty and confusion when any catastrophe occurs, whether it is a hurricane, flood, earthquake, tornado or fire. Successful emergency preparedness leads to reducing some of the chaos created by the unforeseen crisis.

The country’s chain supply is also important to our resiliency. Management of the supply chain is considered a country's backbone as it handles numerous significant issues such as economic growth and environmental problems that have an impact on the DRMM’s strategy.

Based on my research, the top resilient countries has good reactions in economy and natural disasters. I believe that we should focus on our economy, for us to be resilient. We should also focus on the citizens because we can’t be resilient if there is no teamwork in preparing for disasters.

The Cries of the Citizens' Should Be Heard, Not Pacified.

Dear President Rodrigo Duterte,

A lot of things changed during your tenure. But when you use aggression as an act of discipline, I find it totally wrong. You were meant to only give them long years in jail. The War on Drugs was kind of effective, but a lot of people died. We are after the process of CHANGE, not the process of ELIMINATION. Many people died without justice. Criminals who are at large were set free. What is happening to our country?

The farmers’ salaries are getting lower each day. Instead of building subdivisions, why don’t we just use it for vegetations? Can we eat those subdivisions? No. Farmers, these days, don’t have enough money to support their family’s needs, so share some of the country’s funds to them instead of replacing dolomite with white sand (Which is totally unreasonable and useless).

In the field of education, Academic Freeze is not necessary because, thousands of teachers will be jobless, and we don’t want that to happen. We just want our tasks to be lessened, and instead of giving two units per week, why don’t you just give out one? Not all students share the same pace when it comes to studying. Not everyone has a parent or guardian to help them understand each lesson, not everyone is able to self-study.

Opposing and criticizing the government's decisions will never be considered as terrorism. We are just voicing out our opinions on how should we improve our country. The decisions you are about to make should not be one sided. The youth's political views are as important as yours so I hope you will grant OUR requests, the CITIZENS’ request. I wish that this small voice of mine will get to you, and realize that something should be corrected.

                                                                                                                       Concerned Citizen,

Real me I Wish Everybody Know About

I am Janine Deinielle Chan. I am seen as a happy virus because my smiles and giggles are contagious, not to everyone but at least to most people. I am still a 15-year old girl yet I look like 18 according to people whom I meet for the first time. My sister is only 9 years old, and she is currently studying in Divine Word College of Vigan, the same school I went in grade school. My parents are at their 40s, and they really work hard to support and satisfy our needs.

I am a musically inclined individual. My taste in music is wide, I don’t hate any genre because, I believe that they have their own ways in expressing their music. My favorite genres are Pop, RnB, Jazz, Ballad, and K-pop. I also sing well, my friends and relatives told me so. Music heals our soul, and I am a living proof. I have been suffering from anxiety for quite a while now, and I must say that whenever I hear some music, my anxiety goes away. But sadly, they don’t go away totally.

When it comes to my social life, I can say that I am an extrovert towards introverts, and introvert towards extroverts. I am a good listener, but I don’t want to be heard. I just don’t want to worry people. They see me as their happy pill, so I should stay as it is.

I get attached too easily, and fragile. There are a lot of things I regret, and those things are the decisions I made because of my emotions. I am an emotional person, and most the time, I let my emotions take over me. But I’m currently fixing that attitude of mine.

Life is a never ending process, you laugh, you cry, you learn. Well yeah, that’s how it works.

Fourth Quarter Reflection

"No rain, no flowers"              During the Fourth quarter, I have learned lots of things I have never known before...
