COVID-Vaccine: Should it be feared?

 

        The whole country is quarantined because a virus has spread around the globe. Cases of this said virus drastically increased over the months, and doctors haven’t discovered a medicine that can cure carriers of COVID-19. Classes were suspended on March 13, 2020, and the quarantine started on March 15, 2020, from then on, our economy was failing because lots of people lost their jobs because of this pandemic.

            A vaccine has been released and was injected to those who are exposed in corona virus such as health workers and seniors. A lot of people are scared to be vaccinated because the efficacy of the vaccine is not yet confirmed. However, the vaccine should not be feared. According to professionals, such as Lisa Maragkis M.D., M.P.H., senior director of infection prevention, and Gabor Kelen M.D., director of Johns Hopkins Office of Critical Event Preparedness and response, the vaccine for Corona Virus has a safe profile based on research. These vaccines have been tested out in large clinical trials. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given two COVID-19 vaccines emergency use authorization (EUA).

            Some claims states that these vaccines are not safe. However, these side effects only occur on people who has severe allergy such as anaphylaxis. “People with allergies to certain foods, insects, latex and other common allergens can safely receive the COVID-19 vaccine.” The CDC stated. “Those with a history of severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to injectables or other vaccines should discuss the vaccination with their doctor, who can evaluate and assess their risk.” They added. Some people experiences fever, headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, or all of the above after receiving the vaccine.

            Based on the evidences shown above, we should not be afraid in COVID 19 vaccination because it lowers our chance in contracting the virus. Vaccination is a way of familiarizing your body with how should it defend from Corona Virus. This process protects you, and the people around you from this deadly virus.

Lenten Season is the Season for Reflecting and Repenting

 

            The first day of Lent is Ash Wednesday. People with a smudged, black cross on their foreheads may have caught your eye. The ashes from the Ash Wednesday service can be seen there. Ashes reflect our sorrow for the mistakes we've made and the resultant separation of imperfect people from a perfect God. Many Christians practice fasting, repentance, moderation, self-denial, and spiritual restraint during Lent. The aim of the Lenten season is to devote time to contemplating Jesus Christ. During this season, Catholics considers His suffering and sacrifice, His death, and His resurrection. People who observes lent restraints themselves from doing bad habits, watching TV, swearing, etc.

            During lent, we are bound to fast. Fasting is giving up something that’s a regular part of life such as scrolling on social media. Catholics practice this during lent in order for them to avoid distractions, and just focus on building a strong relationship with God. Catholics also practice the act of giving. Giving the needs of other people instead of keeping the goods all to yourself is an act that strengthens our relationship with God.

            This season is truly the season for reflecting because during the Holy Week, we get to spend time at home without any work, and by that, we can reflect on our actions, and eventually come up with a resolve to avoid committing the same mistake twice. Lenten season is also a good opportunity to strengthen and develop a closer relationship with God.

National Women’s Month in the Philippines

 

            The Philippines simply took its inspiration from the United Nations when it came to celebrating women's rights and representation. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly declared March 8 as International Women's Day, paving the way for the country.             I believe that it is truly necessary to celebrate National Women’s month because it helps women gain confidence. In celebrating this, people will appreciate the sacrifices and efforts of women in our everyday life

The Lessons I've Learned This Quarter

 

           

            Throughout the second grading, I have learned a lot including making HTML, basic tags, etc. There are numbers of times where I cannot understand the lesson just by reading the notes. However, my classmates and friends are always willing to make me understand on how such tags function.

        This quarter taught me not only academically, but also socially. I have learned that I cannot study and work all by myself especially with my lack of knowledge regarding HTML tags, there will always be a time where we will need help from others.

            Moving on, I will try to comprehend it more by myself so that whenever they will be the ones who will not understand, I will be able to help them, and by that, I will be able to also help myself from failing.

The Essence of Valentine’s Day

 

      

          Valentine’s Day is a special day where we all show our love, not only to our partners but to everyone. On this day, we not only show love and affection, but also our gratitude and appreciation towards others. Usually, couples go on a date during valentine’s however, this year, 2021, is strict on celebrating valentine’s day.

            Although we can not go to amusement parks or fancy restaurants, we can still celebrate valentine’s day at home. Celebrating this occasion does not require us to go outside our house just to have quality time with our love ones. We can actually celebrate this just by watching movies at home, cooking good food with your family, and by playing online games with friends, depends on how you show them how much you love them.

            

The essence of this special day lies within our hearts. I believe that expensive gifts do not matter that much to the people around us. Instead, we should give them lots of love so that their hearts, and also ours, will be filled with joy and happiness.

Kannawidan’s Value to Ilocanos

 

            Kannawidan is a festival celebrated annually by Ilocanos, those who resides in Ilocos Sur, to be specific. This is conducted to increase cultural awareness and to preserve the rich historical and cultural heritage of Ilocos Sur.

            This festival is not only about Ilocanos’ culture, it is also about their economy, it’s about their harvest and the products which they are known for. Within the festival, there are lots of stalls with different products from the different municipalities of Ilocos Sur namely Vigan, Bantay, Cabugao, Caoayan, etc.

            The said festivity is very important to them because in this way, they can present their culture and products at the same time. And besides, who does not want to participate in a fun festival?

Vigan City Fiesta Celebrated by Bigueños Amidst the Pandemic

            

              The Vigan City Fiesta is what bigueños are looking forward to every 25^th of January. However, this year, the fiesta, also called as Longganisa festival, was cancelled because of the pandemic. We are aware that going outside the house to attend mass gatherings are prohibited according to the health protocols implemented by the government so we can’t actually go outside our house to conduct and attend activities for the festival.

            This pandemic wasn’t enough to stop people from celebrating the fiesta. Each household had their own ways to celebrate the event. Some people celebrated it by preparing foods in order to celebrate the occasion, some celebrated it virtually (facebook live, etc.), and some did not really care.

            This shows that such disease cannot stop Filipinos, especially Bigueños, to celebrate a festival that they are accustomed to; to celebrate the feast of the conversion of the city’s patron saint, St. Paul.
